PCI?

Just get a USB version, if you have free ports, and you'll be ok. I have a "g" router and have been using this (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0243527) with my desktop for 1.5 years. You may want to get an "n" version to be "future-proof".

My router is on the 3rd floor, and the desktop is on the 2nd. I have 100% signal. Laptops often travel to the 1st floor with no problems. Sometimes I use my phone in the basement (it has WiFi) and it seems to be workable (although not 100% signal quality, of course).

'N'-standard is supposed to have even better penetration (but you must have both the router and wifi card using 'n' to get the benefits of 'n'). Do not you have a laptop that you can take to the top floor and check the signal quality there?

all work like a charm on all floors, even altogether along with my PC and watching movies and downloading on all of them we never had trouble with bandwidth and quality. I measured speed on my PC, it showes around 25 mbps max speed. So, G should be enough I guess. I am just concerned that the USB version would have enough distance strength for my PC being on the 3-rd floor. I guess it should work. Always can try and return in case it wouldn't.

Many monitors now have USB ports (they act as hubs). I have my wifi in one of these.
